Our Umhlanga centre was the first dedicated vein centre we opened, in 2013, and it remains our base in KwaZulu-Natal. It is in Medigate No 2, next to Netcare Umhlanga Hospital and close to Gateway in Umhlanga Ridge, and patients come to us from Durban, the North and South Coasts, the Midlands and as far as Zululand.
Your consultation, duplex ultrasound scan and any treatment all happen here, with Dr Johan Blignaut, nursing sister and sclerotherapist Sr Debra Baney, and Louisa Human at reception.
Finding us at Medigate
Medigate is the medical precinct beside Netcare Umhlanga Hospital, close to Gateway. Parking is free on site. Our rooms are in Suite 14 on the first floor of Medigate No 2 and are reached by stairs, so please tell us when you book if stairs are difficult for you.
Procedure days in Umhlanga
The centre is open Monday to Friday, 08:00 to 16:00. Procedures are done on Mondays, in our two office operating rooms, under local anaesthetic. So if you need treatment, your procedure date will normally be a Monday, and you walk out afterwards.
The procedures we do here are radiofrequency ablation, medical adhesive (glue) closure and ultrasound-guided foam sclerotherapy. Cosmetic sclerotherapy for spider veins is done by Sr Debra Baney. We also manage venous leg ulcers: ulcer patients are usually seen in the same week.

Before your first visit
A first visit takes about 30 minutes: Dr Blignaut examines your legs, scans both legs with duplex ultrasound and explains which treatment suits you. Bring your medical scheme details and any previous scan reports or operation notes. Not sure you need to be seen? Start with the free online vein screening and choose Umhlanga as your centre. More about your first visit.
Accounts for the Umhlanga centre are issued by Dr SJ Blignaut Inc (practice number PR 1175718). We submit medical scheme authorisation for you; how schemes pay is explained on our fees and medical aid page.
