Your care
What to expect from your first visit to your follow-up, the forms to complete before you come, and help if you are travelling to us.
Your first visit
Consultation and duplex scan
About 30 minutes. Dr Blignaut scans your legs with duplex ultrasound to find which veins are leaking, and measures your ankle pressures (ABPI, where indicated). No referral is needed unless your scheme option requires one. Bring any previous reports.
Written estimate and authorisation
If treatment is indicated, you receive a written estimate with procedure codes. We submit the pre-authorisation to your medical scheme, which usually takes one to two days.
Treatment in our rooms
Procedures are done under local anaesthetic in our own operating rooms. Radiofrequency ablation takes 20 to 40 minutes, and you walk out afterwards.
Follow-up
Your bandage comes off after 24 hours and you walk daily from the start. Your first follow-up visit is included with the procedure.
Please bring your medical scheme details, any previous scan reports or operation notes, and a list of your medicines.

Not sure you need to be seen?
The free online vein screening takes a few minutes. Our clinical team reviews your answers and calls you within one working day with the sensible next step. It is not a diagnosis.
Patient forms
Completing these before your first visit saves time at reception.
Travelling to us
Patients travel to our centres from across South Africa and neighbouring countries. If you are travelling a distance, tell us when you book. We can often arrange your consultation, duplex scan and treatment planning in a single visit rather than asking you to return.
