Who writes our content
Every condition, treatment and article page on this website is written and medically reviewed by Dr Johan Blignaut, Specialist Surgeon (MBChB (UOFS) · FCS(SA)SURG · LMCC; HPCSA MP0497983). Pages for doctors are written by Dr Blignaut and say so on the page.
How we use evidence
- Clinical statements are based on published research and current guidelines, such as those of the European Society for Vascular Surgery (ESVS) and the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence (NICE).
- Pages list their references, with a link to the source wherever one is available.
- Where Dr Blignaut gives his own clinical experience, the page says so.
Review dates
Each page shows when it was last medically reviewed and when its next review is due. Pages are reviewed at least once every 12 months, and sooner when guidelines or evidence change.
Costs and advertising
- Fees appear on one page only, fees and medical aid. Other pages link to it.
- We do not publish sponsored content, and no company reviews or approves our pages.
- Relationships with companies are set out in our conflict-of-interest statement.

Information, not a diagnosis
Our pages explain vein conditions and treatments in general terms. They cannot tell you what is happening in your own legs. Only a consultation and a duplex ultrasound scan can do that.
